Name: Rihtiel Gender: Male Species: Red Fox Age: 4
Appearance: Rih looks like your typical red fox, a brilliant red-orange coat, thin black legs, thick tail, and those piercing brown eyes. His fur is thin and coarse, and it doesn’t get very thick during the winter. When shedding, his fur is dull orange and grey, and very uneven. Most, if not all the time, Rih’s coat will be covered in dirt, since he has better things to do then worry about personal hygiene. His ears are slightly larger than the average red fox and he mostly relies on them rather than his vision. Rihtiel is partially blind, and with the years to come, he will eventually go fully blind. A large disadvantage for a fox, being they relied on their sight for tracking movement. In his 4 years he’s trained himself to live off of sounds, and smell, closing his eyes most of the day for practice. Instead of being a rich chocolate brown color, his eyes are more of a mud brown, glazed over with silver. He doesn’t think of it as a disability, more of an opportunity to be able to grasp the world in a way others simply can’t.
Personality: Because of his eyes, Rihtiel jumps at every chance to get food. He has beliefs that prey will slowly start to disappear, so he’d rather gather as much as he can, then go hungry looking for food. At any suggest for friendship, he’d take it before you could finish offering. It’s not that he really wants to be friends; it means he finally gets the chance to not have to keep his guard up, due to his visual impairment, and that he has someone who can see for him. When Rihtiel wants an actual friend, he can be very faithful toward them. If they’re in need of help, Rih would help as much as he can, believing the sky is the limit. He expects loyalty to such extent to be returned and can be deeply offended if it isn’t. He’s got a wicked pout face, and will use it to his advantage should he need to. Though if the situation is grimmer, he will turn his back on the ex-friend and leave them to rot.
Even though he’s partially blind, he’s very courageous. In the human world he’d be the one opening pickle jars without fear, killing spiders, and going downstairs with a baseball bat when the cat knocks something down. But in the animal world, he’s the one to stay with the kids when they have nightmares, snuggling right down in with them. Even though he’s smaller than most animals, he’d stand up against a lion to protect a friend, though instead of fighting, he’d do his best to charm his way out of the situation. Even though he’s 4 years old, he still has the mind of a pup. He tends to think of himself as better than felines and for the most part other canines and will play around with the minds of others. His intentions aren’t to be rude, but to try and loosen up other’s lives with a little humor. His jokes are often hurtful, since he’s usually the one to dish out the hard truth, and uses that for comedic affect. Deep inside, he thinks that Mother Nature is going to turn her back on the world and wipe everyone out. For a few fearful years, he refrained from going anywhere dangerous, should gravity ever reverse. And still, years later, you can often find him huddled under a tree or in a cave.
History: Rihtiel was the only surviving pup in his litter of six. This was due to disease and predation for the most part, and a very unreliable father. Yet Rih didn’t see him as irresponsible, no, he saw his dad as a hero. Since his father was blind, he’d teach Rih how to see the world without eyes, which ultimately was just living your live in a different view. Rih’s father was everything to him, his best friend, his dad, and his mentor. A year passed and Rih woke one day to find his father gone. His mother refused to say anything about it, and now a day, he thinks his father was either killed or ran from commitment. Still, it angered him that his mother wouldn’t tell him what had happened so he ran away to live on his own. At 3 years old, he started to notice he couldn’t see as well, and then at 4 he realized a curse among his family had grasped him. His lines had poor eyesight, due to some random disease, and he was bred down by more blind foxes and finally, he had it. Rih took what his father taught him and used his ears and nose to live instead of his eyes. You can often find him sitting and staring at a flower, searing the image into his brain to remember it’s beauty when he would no longer be able to see it’s beautiful colors again. Other: N/A
