Private for andy. C= _______________________ Black ears flickered, and amber eyes heaved open. It was morning, with the sun slowly making its way up into the sky. Tara groaned, stretching her front limbs from the tight curl she had coiled up into. She felt tired; last night she had been kept up by the voices again. Marroone didn't help that much, either; when she finally did fall asleep, he woke her up again because of... tch, she wasn't even awake enough at the time to remember what he said.
"Tarükya," a voice called to her, and the fox turned her head to see none other than the demon himself. The man's arms were crossed over his torso, and had he a face, he would've stared down at her with expectancy in his eyes. "Come, child. You must get food to start this day."
Tara blinked at him lazily before rising to her feet, and she stretched some more. She didn't respond verbally, however, as she didn't have much to say, so instead she merely trotted off with her imaginary leader following close behind. She stalked through the land silently, her steps soft and careful. Her eyes scanned the area, looking for any signs of movement. She thought she saw something shift in the corner of her eye and whipped around to see it, but upon seeing nothing, she kept to her path.
Marroone trailed behind the canine, and touched her back. The fox twirled around, startled, but relaxed upon seeing it was only the humanoid. She growled at him, not happy he had scared her, but blinked when he pointed to her left. Her eyes followed his hand and they widened when she saw a rabbit nibbling at something in the ground. She lowered herself to the dirt as she neared closer to it, amber orbs narrowing, claws ready to snatch for its throat.

He had not paid much attention to the rabbit near him, his main focus was upon the succulent blades of grass that he was readily filling his gullet with. Not a smile lingered on his face, but it was significantly less taut and firm as when he was agitated. This was the beast in his most natural - and peaceful – state. However, far too often other creatures entered the mix and altered his natural state to one that was fast becoming natural – frustration. The man knew he had anger issues, it didn’t exactly take a brain surgeon to figure such things out. Heck, even the rabbit probably knew he had anger issues since only moments ago he’d kicked a hind leg at the silent creature when it had strayed too close. Of course the kick had been only vaguely directed, and never came into contact of the small woodland creature. But the message had been the same.
Now the two were coexisting peacefully. The rabbit kept a few yards off, nibbling at the grass, while the great red stag gorged upon his own section, only occasionally flicking his ear to be sure that no one else was attempting to join the fray. He had become quite comfortable here, though Ryker was almost certain it was twenty degrees hotter in every inch of this land than it had been where he’d previously come from. He’d mentioned it in passing to a bird, or some small creature like that, but they’d shrugged it off assuring him that his mind was just playing tricks on him. Ryker had just resolved to the fact that it was hotter here, and there was nothing he could do about it.
All too soon, a noise was captured in his great satellite ears, and Ryker’s head lifted, swinging toward the rabbit. A shadowy figure was approaching at rapid speed, threatening to disrupt the peaceful encounter that Ryker and the rabbit were experiencing. The great red stag let out a bellow, not for the life of the rabbit – of that he could care less about – but for the life of his peaceful day, which was fading just as quickly as the rabbit’s life. Charging forward with antlers low and looming, Ryker attempted to chase off the attacker.

As she slithered nearer and nearer to the smaller mammal, the fox subconsciously let a rough pink tongue run over her canines. Oh, how she did savor the taste of rabbit. She had heard the meat of moose and deer was pretty good, too, but she hadn't ever taken down such a creature as of now. Sure, she was completely capable, but perhaps she had feared what would happen if she failed, and she was unsure about the damage those antlers could deal.
Speaking of deer... Tara quickly glanced to her left to see a giant being releasing a roar, and the rabbit hightailed his way out of there. Her tail bristled as she instinctively bore her teeth, and she heard Marroone groan. "Get out of the way, you fool," he spat, floating up and out of sight for the time-being. Tara nodded stiffly as the red deer charged, and she leaped to the side to safety. She growled at the mammal, her eyes narrowing. She eyed the bones sprouting from his cranium, realizing how fatally they could've roughed her up if she hadn't moved, before locking her gaze on the orbs of the stag. "Just what do you think you're doing?" she asked spitefully, her ears pinning back to her skull. She was cautious, however, in case this beast wanted to charge again.
"Leave him be, girl," the red demon ordered, descending to her side again. "Let's go find another rabbit to devour instead. Don't give this deer attention."
"Not until I get an explanation for the stupidity of this thing," Tara responded heatedly, her eyes darting from Marroone back to the deer. She lowered her head to the ground as she waited, her bushy tail flickering back and forth.

But he honestly didn't care. Ryker snorted through gaping nostrils, head still low to the earth, antlers poised for the attack. He stood still now, no longer barreling forward like a freight train. A light layer of sweat broke out on his brow as he gained his breath back. As the tiny fox questioned him, Ryker snorted indignantly.
"Who cares to know? Get lost, little fox, you have no business here."
As she spoke again Ryker's brow furrowed. Who was she talking to, and why? Was there another with her? Amber eyes searched to no avail, she was very much alone, and this puzzled him. His great head descended even lower as his bicuspids focused on gnawing away the grass below him, eyes still on the fox and her curious manner. The rabbit was long gone, probably shivering somewhere out of fright. Ryker was proud that he wasn't fearful of many creatures, except the extraordinarily large ones.
ooc; blah. way too short, sorry :c

Ha ha, don't sweat it. It's fine. :D ___________________ Her eyes twitched at the snort the stag gave her, and her claws sunk into the ground. He wouldn't be laughing when she dug her nails and teeth into his neck, now would he? She heard Marroone growl with impatience behind her, but she paid him no heed. The man needed to learn she wouldn't take any crap from anyone, anyways, and especially not from this deer. The beast was prey rather than predator; she could snap his skull if she wanted.
... Then again, though, he could do the same to her. But that was beside the point.
He retaliated her question with the same standoffishness she had hurled at him, and she snarled. "It just so happens that the rabbit you frightened off was going to be my lunch," she answered roughly, eyes narrowing as the creature lowered his head to munch at the grass. Her amber orbs met his, a dangerous flame dancing in her eyes. Lucky for him, she wouldn't attack unless he provoked her, but she could always just take him as a meal, couldn't she? That is, if she could fell such a large beast. It wouldn't be easy, and just finding another rabbit, like the demon suggested, would be easier.
Tara noticed how the red deer looked around when she retorted her answer to Marroone, and she absently wondered why he couldn't just directly eye the creature himself. In fact, she was confused as to why the stag hasn't charged at Marroone instead of her—the red man was larger than she, probably stronger than she. "It appears as though we won't get an answer, so we best get going," the hallucination barked at the fox, and as Tara turned her head to see him, she could clearly see the irritation rising in him. "Why?" she asked him blankly. "He scared the rabbit, my meal. It only seems fair to stick around and interrogate him, don't you think?" Her voice rose into a more questioning tone as she got further in her speech; even though she was agitated, she would still show at least some respect for the entity. Perhaps she'd apologize later for her rudeness towards him, but for now, she would stay planted in her low posture until she was done with this deer.

He outweighed her by at least three or four times, and was not worried in the slightest that she might attempt something. With one stamp of his hoof, or one jut of his antlers her tiny life would go fading into the sunset. It was this knowledge rattling around in his cranium that allowed him to ignore her very existence.. that is.. until she spoke again. As she bit at him with her icy words, Ryker merely snorted once more, rolling his eyes to glare at her from his munching position.
"Well I guess it's his lucky day then."
Ryker continued to let off his steam on the grass below him, but was quickly wearing a hole down to the dirt. Shifting forward on agile hooves, he took to munching once more. Again she was talking, but not to him. Ryker lifted his head a few inches from his meal and snorted.
"Who in the world are you talking to?"
Why do I even care? He went back to grazing, his tail swishing indignantly behind him. Foolish little fox, get lost.

The deer was really starting to get under her skin. He disregarded her words dismissively with a snort every time she spoke, and she didn't appreciate that, obviously. Her eye twitched as she was really considering pouching for his jugular, but at Marroone's grunt, she fell silent. Of course the demon wouldn't want her getting herself killed by this beast, and chances were if she did manage to escape the stag's antlers again she'd get a tough scolding from the crimson man. She was capable of defending herself, sure, more than capable, perhaps. She was stronger than she looked by a long shot ever since she drank that potion not too long ago. Then again, she still wasn't completely in control of said strength, so... Hmm. Perhaps arguing would be futile. If she struck a nerve with the creature she'd be dead for sure. Once again her anger got the best of her, and was mighty close in getting her killed.
Tarükya sighed as she regained her normal, standing posture, and her muzzle dipped a bit. Amber orbs stayed locked onto the deer's, though, and a cold frown still graced her lips. "Well, you finally seem to have realized how fruitless this senseless squall is," Marroone said vacantly, his arms crossing, "So perhaps it is time to go." The fox glanced over at the entity, hearing his words quite clearly, but didn't respond. She didn't like to admit her faults, especially to Marroone.
More words from the deer caught her attention, though, and she quickly directed her gaze to him. What did he mean, "who was she talking to?" Marroone was right there, right in front of him, right beside her. The man had spoke against her actions not a moment before, and he had been there the whole time. How could he not see him? Her eyebrow rose as she mused over the possibilities as to how the giant could've missed him. Blind, maybe? No, that wouldn't make any sense. So was he just yanking her chain? It was possible. In fact, that's probably what it was. He was teasing her, taunting her. Tara scoffed at him, shaking her head. "Don't be stupid," she retorted bitterly, "I know for a fact you aren't blind. You can see him just as clearly as I can."
What would make him want to lie about not seeing Marroone, though, was the million dollar question, and Tara had yet to find a real answer.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,350,true] | [atrb=background,http://i45.tinypic.com/2lmtauh.jpg] It seemed with her very presence the heat within him was burning even hotter. Ryker snorted in protest, a bead of sweat gathering on his brow and rolling down his nose as he continued to graze. He'd gotten used to the heat, but this was over the top. The beast heaved a tremendous sigh as his flattened teeth gnawed at the roots of the grass. It crunched in protest as he chomped and chomped. He tried his best to put the fox out of his mind, but she was still visible in the corner of his eyes. He furrowed his brow, adjusting his head to get her out of his vision.
It would take a while, he was sure. The fox seemed to be very stubborn, but he was sure that she would leave eventually. But even if she did, her memory would remain. Was she insane to be talking to someone he couldn't see? Was he insane for not being able to see whoever she was talking to? This was a strange place.. perhaps she knew of some invisible creature that he did not. Heck, maybe the creature wasn't invisible at all, maybe he just couldn't see it.
"Him? Him who? There's no one there, you fool! It's just you and I standing here."
He lifted his head to glare at her, eyes boring into her as harshly as he could make them. He felt as if his body were actually on fire, consumed by flames on every possible surface. A snort escaped him, the puff of air from his lungs visible in the air even though it wasn't cold in the slightest. The steam that had left him caught him by slight alarm, and his brow furrowed in a perplexed manner. What was this? It wasn't cold enough to logically see his own breath, so why then could he so distinctly see this puff floating away from him and dissipating into the air?

I guess we can start to wrap this up; otherwise if Ryker calls after her for some reason, I'll add another post. Great thread, I loved it! They'll definitely have to meet again, and perhaps exchange names that time. xD __________________ Tara watched him graze the green sprouts carefully, if a bit curiously. She knew that different taste buds and species would add to the fact that grass was no doubt delicious to deer but mediocre to her. Grass was more of a last resort sort of food—it wasn't particularly bad, per se, but it wasn't really that good, either. It was neutral, perhaps, as food goes, and—... Oh, why did it matter in the slightest?
The fox brushed the irrelevant babble from her mind as she quietly observed the creature, but another scowl settled on her muzzle at his answer to her previous question. This deer must've been stupid not to be able to see Marroone, because she just couldn't see what else could prohibit him from doing so. The man was as alive as they were, and truly, he wasn't that hard to miss. A floating guy covered in what could be perceived as blood and with features of The Lord of the Underworld couldn't have gone unnoticed for long anywhere.
Nevertheless she would humor the deer with a rough, sarcastic laugh. My, how his little joke had amused her. "Very funny," she hissed, "You wouldn't believe how hard I'm internally cracking up at your excuse for humor. Don't play dumb with me, because I know even one with a brain as puny as yours appears to be that you can see him."
Marroone, however, seemed to have a different approach to the matter. "Tarükya," he said in a cold, harsh whisper, "We will take our leave now." Tara craned her neck to look at him, but before she turned, another thing caught her eye. Liquid good eyes darted back to the beast to see the whisps of the cloud arise from his nose, and she paused. That was odd. It wasn't cold enough yet for one's breath to freeze in the open air. How did that happen?
And then it reoccurred to Tara how she had found a potion not long ago. If there was one of those bottles in this Forest, there was surely to be more. And surely, they all had different effects, if not the same that she had been given. The smoke from his face was a bit alarming to her, either way. Smoke came from fire. Fire brought ruin. Would the deer cackle up bouts of flames, then? That wasn't good in the slightest. That was most dangerous for her.
"... Perhaps that is best," she responded to Marroone quietly, looking at him from the corner of her eye. It was risky to stay here, with that deer able to have fire lick at every nook and cranny in her body. And even if he couldn't produce flames, even if he had only been smoking something like the humans did for whatever reason (unlikely as it was, it was still a possibility), she was hungry. It would be wise to find food now and leave the giant to his business.
Without a word the copper vixen slipped away from the nameless stag, and her guardian followed after her. She sniffed the air for another snack to snag, and was unaware of what a fool she had just made of herself.
