Ah, what a glorious night it was turning out to be. The sky was streaked with violets and indigos and purples and blues, and the large clouds had such amazing shapes forming within them. The wind was beginning to pick up, but not by too terribly much—it was just a moderate breeze, nothing more. The wolf was sure it wasn't going to be a full-blown storm, but my, how he did like the scenery of one. The rain one brought was mildly annoying, but it didn't derail him from seeing the real show.
Lightning. Oh, how Boromir liked lightning. Everything about it was fascinating: how it moved across the heavens and bounced from cloud to cloud, how it darted down to strike a tree, its unique shape, its thunderous rumbles. Perhaps the only aspect of the phenomenon was the fact that it was fatal, but maybe that just made it all the more intriguing. The danger added to its charm, at least to the lupine.
Nevertheless he watched with interest as a bolt of lightning out up the sky, and seconds later its thunder roared. A slight smile came upon his lips, and he remained still in his sitting posture. Icy orbs would scan the area carefully for the next strike, and Boromir felt his tail wag as another bolt came and went.

There was another creature watching the heavens heave and flash. Talons clutching the branch of the ragged old tree, which creaked and swayed in the gale. The angry sky illuminated the barn owl every few seconds, as lightning pierced the clouds. Nakamoren was as calm as ever, though, drifting gently with the tree's rocking movements. His powerful ear slits were half-sealed, for the thunder was deafening. Yet he never minded storms, for they were an uncommon blaze of excitement in the usually calm place.
The barn owl fluffed out his feathers as the wind blew harder, narrowing his large brown eyes until the gust passed. When his gaze returned to its full strength, he noticed on the ground, a short distance away, a wolf. The big light grey predator was also enjoying the storm. In a more obvious and delighted way than the owl. Nakamoren shifted his talons on the tree's bark and peered down at the flightless animal with mild curiosity. It wasn't like he hadn't seen wolves before, he had. But it had been a few months ago, just after he had fledged. His parents had often talked about the dangers of one to an owlet. Like they had of raccoons and foxes. Still, they were a fascinating sort of creature.
Lightning blazed so close to his tree that the owl flinched instinctively. Nothing was harmed, though, but the shock made him shuffle closer to the trunk. He wasn't into taking flight, though, as it would be even more dangerous if he soared up into the clouds. However, it would be best to take shelter in a more sturdy, leaf-full tree. Nakamoren swiveled his head about, waiting for the precise moment to lift off. He raised himself to his full height and spread his wings. His gaze flicked to the wolf, then he sprang into the air and was quickly rising with a few power strokes. He stayed quite low, avoiding flight above the canopy. The scattered rocks below were just meters from his sleek shape. He turned his head, searching for a spot to land. Maybe the limestone would do. Normally, he wasn't comfortable on the ground, but he sensed that on a night such as this he had little to worry about. Even the wolf was distracted, by the weather.
Nakamoren angled his wings and circled down. The wind buffeted his wings, and he wobbled a bit in his flight. There! A skinny maple, short but in full leaf. No need to let down on the stony ground tonight. He skimmed down, then sunk his talons into one of the higher branches. His landing was rather messy, due to the powerful, swirling gusts, but he managed. The barn owl quickly folded his wings and settled on the branch. He was perched high in the tree, but still had a thick cover of more branches and greenery over his head. He relaxed slightly.
He had just noticed that he was now closer to the wolf than before. Nakamoren stepped further to the end of his branch to tilt his head and gaze down. In the gloomy light, he had no trouble making out the fluffy grey and white color of its pelt, and the startling blue eyes that looked like chips of frozen water. He clacked his beak in a satisfied sort of way, then switched his gaze once again to the thunderous sky.
